The Executive Director of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), Dan N. Odongo, has announced that the registration of candidates for the 2026 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) is currently underway.
In a move aimed at accommodating newly accredited examination centres, UNEB has extended the normal registration period to 30 June 2026.
Mr. Odongo revealed that late registration will commence on 1 July 2026 and close on 31 July 2026, attracting a surcharge of 100 percent for PLE candidates and 50 percent for UCE and UACE candidates. He emphasized that no candidate will be registered after the July 31 deadline.
The government will continue to shoulder examination registration costs for all learners enrolled under the Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and Universal Post O-Level Education and Training (UPOLET) programmes.
For privately sponsored candidates, registration fees remain unchanged at UGX 34,000 for PLE, UGX 164,000 for UCE, and UGX 186,000 for UACE.
UNEB has also tightened compliance requirements for UCE registration. Only candidates whose Continuous Assessment (CA) scores for all subjects, as well as Senior Three project scores, have been duly submitted to the Board will be eligible for registration. The requirement equally applies to adult private candidates and candidates with equated results.
Candidates presenting foreign academic qualifications have been directed to first obtain official equivalency certification from UNEB. Upon successful equating of their results, they will be issued a unique code enabling them to complete electronic registration.
Mr. Odongo further cautioned school administrators against levying unauthorized charges under the guise of “UNEB fees.” Citing the UNEB Act, Cap 259, Section 33, he noted that it is unlawful to charge fees not prescribed by the Board and label them as UNEB fees.
UNEB has also warned Heads of Centres and their representatives to ensure that all registration fees collected are remitted to the Board and that every eligible learner is formally registered for the national examinations.
Additionally, in accordance with the UNEB Act, Cap 259, Section 4(2), all examination centres are required to display registers of duly registered candidates on school noticeboards in conspicuous locations at least 60 days before the commencement of national examinations.
The Board has urged schools, parents, and candidates to adhere strictly to the registration timelines to avoid last-minute inconveniences and possible exclusion from the 2026 national examinations.
