ONC Monitors Wealth Creation Achievements Under PDM in Mukono District
In the continued efforts of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) to monitor the implementation and impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) government programme, Mutesi Justine, a 48-year-old resident of Miggo Village, Kabembe Ward, Kyampisi Sub-county in Mukono District, has emerged as a shining example of the transformative impact of the initiative on household income and community development.
Before benefiting from the Parish Development Model, Mutesi was engaged in small-scale piggery farming with only two pigs. Despite her dedication and hard work, the enterprise generated an average income of only UGX 100,000, which limited her ability to expand the business and adequately support her household needs.
In 2024, Mutesi received UGX 1,000,000 under the Parish Development Model. She wisely invested the funds in expanding her piggery enterprise by improving feeding, housing, and overall livestock management. The financial boost enabled her to increase production and transform her farming activity into a more viable commercial venture.
Within six months of receiving the PDM funds, her business registered significant growth. Through improved breeding and management practices, she successfully produced and sold 40 piglets, generating substantial income and demonstrating the effectiveness of productive investment under the programme.
The proceeds from her piggery enterprise enabled her to diversify into poultry farming, where she established a layer project focused on egg production. Today, she earns approximately UGX 600,000 from the sale of eggs, a remarkable increase from the UGX 100,000 she earned before benefiting from PDM. This growth has greatly improved her household welfare and financial stability.
In addition to improving her own livelihood, Mutesi contributes to the development of her community by supplying manure to fellow farmers, helping them improve soil fertility and agricultural productivity. Her success story highlights the positive impact of the Parish Development Model and demonstrates how government interventions can empower beneficiaries to create sustainable sources of income, improve their standards of living, and contribute to local economic transformation.
