President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today delivered a lecture to a delegation from the Egyptian Armed Forces Staff and Command College at the National Leadership Institute (NALI), highlighting key issues surrounding the Nile Basin and Africa’s development trajectory.

In his address, the President emphasized that the core challenge facing the Nile Basin is not rooted in colonial-era agreements, but rather in the persistent underdevelopment across tropical regions. He pointed to limited access to electricity, low levels of industrialisation, and the growing impact of climate change as the real obstacles to sustainable water management.

President Museveni underscored that the long-term solution lies in accelerating electrification and industrialisation. According to him, these efforts will not only drive economic growth but also enable better environmental protection and more sustainable use of vital water resources such as the River Nile.

He further shared Uganda’s historical ideological missions, including the rejection of identity-based politics in favor of nationalism and Pan-Africanism, the pursuit of socio-economic transformation, and the commitment to advancing African unity.

The President also commended the delegation for visiting the Source of the Nile in Jinja, noting that such experiences offer a deeper appreciation of Uganda’s natural beauty and strategic significance.

He welcomed the delegation to Uganda and wished them a productive and insightful stay.
