Uganda’s Parliament has taken a heartfelt step in support of the family of the late Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, sending a strong message of unity and compassion beyond political lines. In an emotional sitting, Members of Parliament came together to honor her legacy by focusing on the future she left behind—her daughter.
The initiative was spearheaded by the Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, who moved a motion calling on the Parliamentary Commission to deduct UGX 500,000 from each Member of Parliament. The funds are intended to support the education of Nakimuli’s daughter, ensuring that her dreams remain alive despite the painful loss of her mother.
Hon. Ogwang’s proposal struck a chord across the House, drawing rare unanimous agreement from legislators. MPs, often divided by party interests and ideology, set aside their differences to stand in solidarity with the late colleague’s family. The motion was adopted without opposition, reflecting a shared sense of responsibility and empathy.
Several legislators described the move as more than a financial contribution—it was a gesture of love, remembrance, and duty. They noted that while Hon. Nakimuli may no longer be present, her service to the nation and her role as a mother should never be forgotten. Supporting her daughter’s education was seen as a meaningful way to preserve her legacy.
The decision has since resonated with many Ugandans, who view it as a powerful example of leadership grounded in humanity. At a time when public trust in institutions can waver, Parliament’s action has reminded citizens that compassion still has a place at the highest levels of governance.
As the country reflects on this act of unity, one message stands clear: even in loss, there can be hope. Through this collective effort, Hon. Hellen Nakimuli’s daughter is not only supported but embraced by a nation that refuses to let her walk the journey alone.
