Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the Head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), has emerged as a key grassroots mobilizer whose work has significantly impacted the lives of poor Ugandans. Through her leadership role, she has focused on bridging the gap between government poverty alleviation programs and the ordinary citizens who are meant to benefit from them. Her approach has largely centered on direct engagement with communities, ensuring that government initiatives reach the intended beneficiaries at the lowest level.

One of her major contributions has been the promotion and implementation of wealth creation programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Programme. These initiatives are designed to uplift vulnerable populations by providing financial support, skills, and startup capital. Namyalo has actively mobilized communities to embrace these programs, encouraging participation and awareness while also distributing tools like sewing machines and other startup equipment to empower youth and women to start income-generating projects.

In addition to promoting government programs, Namyalo has taken a strong stance against corruption, particularly the misuse of funds intended for poverty eradication. She has publicly called out officials who divert resources meant for the poor, emphasizing accountability and transparency. Her efforts to expose such practices have helped restore some level of trust among citizens and ensured that more resources reach grassroots communities.

Namyalo’s leadership style is deeply rooted in grassroots engagement. She is known for maintaining close contact with ordinary Ugandans, listening to their concerns, and responding directly to their needs. This accessibility has made her a popular figure among low-income communities, as she represents a leadership approach that prioritizes inclusivity and responsiveness. Her consistent presence in communities has strengthened the connection between the government and the people.

Her work has also played a critical role in political mobilization, particularly among the youth. As a coordinator of the “Bazzukulu” (grandchildren) movement, Namyalo has successfully rallied young people to support government programs and actively participate in national development. Her mobilization strategies have been instrumental in rebuilding support for the NRM in regions where the party previously faced challenges, especially by aligning development efforts with political messaging.

Furthermore, Namyalo has been at the forefront of campaigns encouraging support for President Yoweri Museveni. By linking poverty eradication efforts with political mobilization, she has helped create a narrative that associates government programs with improved livelihoods. Her campaigns have emphasized continuity and stability, persuading many citizens that sustained leadership is essential for ongoing development. This strategy has significantly contributed to consolidating grassroots support for the President.

As a result of these combined efforts—empowerment initiatives, anti-corruption advocacy, and strong grassroots mobilization—Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo has played a notable role in strengthening the NRM’s support base. Her influence, particularly among poor and marginalized communities, has been a key factor in mobilizing voters, contributing to President Museveni’s continued electoral success and strong performance in national elections.
