KATWE — The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has revisited Katwe to assess the progress of Kyomugisha Babra, a single mother who recently benefited from the ONC empowerment programme. The follow-up visit came after Hajjat Namyalo first met Kyomugisha while monitoring the display of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) village committee voters’ registers ahead of the upcoming Local Council I (LC I) elections, where the struggling mother shared her heartbreaking story.

Kyomugisha’s plight had earlier attracted public attention after a video showing the difficult conditions in which she and her children were living went viral on social media. During their encounter, she revealed that she had no stable source of income and often struggled to provide food and other basic necessities for her family. She also disclosed that raising her children’s school fees had become nearly impossible, leaving them at risk of dropping out of school.

Touched by her situation, Hajjat Namyalo immediately intervened by providing startup capital to enable Kyomugisha to establish a small business and earn a sustainable income. After visiting the family’s makeshift shelter, she also rented a self-contained house for them for one year and equipped it with essential household items, including a mattress, blankets, clothes and food supplies, giving the family an opportunity to begin a new chapter in a safer and more dignified environment.

During her latest visit, Hajjat Namyalo found the family settling well into their new home and encouraged Kyomugisha to make productive use of the business capital to improve her family’s future. Kyomugisha expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying the support had restored her hope after a long period of hardship. She thanked Hajjat Namyalo for giving her children a better place to live and a chance to build a more stable life.

The intervention reflects the Office of the National Chairman’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable Ugandans through both humanitarian assistance and economic empowerment. By combining immediate relief with opportunities for self-reliance, the initiative seeks to help disadvantaged families regain their dignity and build sustainable livelihoods.
