President Museveni Appoints Michael Tusiime Director of Public Expenditure AccountabilityPresident Museveni has appointed former Mbarara Municipality Member of Parliament, Michael Tusiime, as the new Director of Public Expenditure Accountability at the Parliament of Uganda. The appointment places Tusiime at the center of efforts to strengthen oversight and ensure transparency in the use of public resources.

Tusiime served as MP for Mbarara Municipality from 2016 to 2021, where he was involved in legislative work and governance issues affecting his constituents. During his tenure, he gained experience in parliamentary procedures and accountability mechanisms, positioning him for roles that require scrutiny of public expenditure.

Before this appointment, Tusiime worked as a consultant audit advisor, supporting parliamentary accountability committees in executing their oversight mandate. His work involved guiding legislators on financial scrutiny, audit processes, and strengthening institutional checks within government operations.

In his new role, Tusiime is expected to oversee efforts aimed at enhancing financial discipline, improving reporting systems, and reinforcing accountability across government entities. The Directorate of Public Expenditure Accountability plays a crucial role in ensuring that taxpayer funds are used efficiently and in line with approved budgets.

The appointment reflects ongoing efforts by the Ugandan leadership to bolster institutional accountability within Parliament. Observers say Tusiime’s blend of legislative experience and technical expertise in audit and oversight could contribute significantly to strengthening public financial management in the country.
