The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has extended financial support to rising boxing talents Shakib Cham Lutaaya and Timothy Sserunjogi, popularly known as Barista Timo, in a move aimed at promoting youth development through sports.

The contribution of Shs10 million was announced by ONC Manager Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye during a vibrant corporate boxing event held at International University of East Africa in Kansanga, Kampala. The event attracted thousands of enthusiastic fans who turned up for an evening filled with high-energy bouts and entertainment.

In the headline fight, Shakib Cham Lutaaya delivered an impressive performance, defeating Barista Timo with a first-round knockout that sent the crowd into wild celebrations. The bout stood out as the highlight of the night, showcasing determination, skill, and the growing appeal of boxing among Uganda’s youth.

While announcing the donation, Namyalo praised both fighters for their discipline and resilience, emphasizing the importance of such platforms in nurturing young talent.

“The Office of the National Chairman is committed to supporting young people who choose to use their talents positively. This support is meant to encourage you to grow your careers and inspire others,” she said.

In addition to the official contribution, Namyalo personally rewarded the fighters, giving USD 1,000 to Shakib and USD 500 to Barista Timo in recognition of their performances.

She also urged young people to remain focused on productive ventures, particularly sports, as a pathway to success, rather than engaging in negative activities.

Namyalo further called upon the government, especially the Ministry of Education and Sports, to increase funding toward sports development. According to her, Uganda has immense untapped talent that requires proper investment to flourish.

“We need to invest more in sports because many young people have potential that remains unsupported. Increased funding can transform lives and create opportunities,” she noted.

Speaking after the fight, Barista Timo expressed gratitude for the support, applauding Namyalo for her continued commitment to youth empowerment.

Shakib Cham Lutaaya also appreciated the support extended to the boxing fraternity and acknowledged the encouragement he has received throughout his journey, including from his wife, Zari Hassan.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Moses Muhangi, as well as music stars Joseph Mayanja and Bebe Cool. It also featured trial bouts for the Uganda National Boxing Team, known as The Bombers, highlighting efforts to identify and prepare athletes for upcoming international competitions such as the Commonwealth Games.

The Kansanga boxing event underscored the growing role of sports as a tool for youth empowerment and talent development in Uganda.
