Uganda continues to make a significant contribution to international peace and security by providing more than 600 military and police personnel to four United Nations peacekeeping missions. The deployment reflects the country’s ongoing commitment to supporting global efforts to prevent conflict, protect civilians and promote stability in areas affected by insecurity.

The Ugandan personnel serve in challenging environments where peacekeepers are often required to operate under difficult conditions and significant personal risk. Their responsibilities include helping maintain security, supporting local communities and contributing to efforts aimed at creating conditions for lasting peace.

Uganda’s contribution forms part of the wider UN peacekeeping system, which brings together military, police and civilian personnel from countries across the world. These missions work with national authorities and communities to protect vulnerable populations, support peace processes and strengthen institutions in countries emerging from conflict.

The deployment also highlights the important role African countries play in international peacekeeping. Ugandan troops and police officers have built experience in working alongside personnel from different nations while responding to complex security and humanitarian challenges.

For the men and women serving under the UN flag, the assignment comes with sacrifices that extend beyond their professional duties. They spend long periods away from their families and work in environments where security threats, harsh conditions and uncertainty can form part of everyday life.

The United Nations has recognized the service and sacrifice of peacekeepers who continue to work in difficult circumstances in the pursuit of peace. Uganda’s contribution of more than 600 personnel to four UN missions therefore represents not only a national commitment, but also a contribution to the collective international effort to build a safer and more peaceful world.
